Welcome to the Annual Milford Oyster Festival

Annual Milford Oyster Festival
Statement of Purpose

Annual Milford Oyster Festival, Inc., ("AMOF") is an IRS defined tax exempt, non-profit organization under tax code section 501 (c)4. It is responsible for presenting the annual Milford Oyster Festival ("Festival"), traditionally held each year on the third Saturday in August on properties specifically designated under permits granted by the City of Milford. AMOF's members and participants are typically comprised of unpaid volunteers, who are responsible for organizing, facilitating and promoting this one-day Festival. If necessary, AMOF may hire independent contractors to manage one or more of its committees when it cannot find willing volunteers to perform these tasks. Under AMOF's by-laws, the underlying purpose for holding this Festival is to provide a number of forums to raise community pride and civic awareness. In addition to its main forum of non-profit fundraising, these forums also include exhibition and sale of non-commercial arts and crafts; exhibition of non-profit services; family-oriented entertainment and attractions; and the oyster industry.

AMOF's goal of providing a forum for non-profit fundraising is accomplished by promotion of a wide variety of family entertainment and wide variety of food and beverages available for sale at minimal costs by local Milford non-profit civic organizations who use the revenues earned during the Festival to fund their respective charitable causes. AMOF also achieves its goals through the exhibition of local non-profit services and the exhibition and sale of non-commercial arts and crafts. This is an event that attracts exhibitors from all parts of the country to one of Southern New England's finest and largest Arts and Crafts fairs.

Operating income is derived mainly from: contributions received from local corporate businesses, merchants and private individuals; entry fees charged to canoe and road race participants, arts and crafts exhibitors and food and beverage vendors comprised solely of local non-profit civic organizations; beer keg sales to beverage vendors; sale of official Milford Oyster Festival souvenirs; and profit-sharing arrangements with proprietors of children's games. Expenses incurred for the production of the Festival mainly accrue from: entertainment and sound equipment, tents, tables and chairs, port-o-lets and trailers; insurance; security; legal and accounting service fees; City and State permits; purchase costs of souvenirs and civic awards and administrative expenses.
